The daughter of Mustafa the Second: The life of Emine Sultan (1696-1739)

This study aims to depict the life story of Emine Sultan born as the daughter of Mustafa II. Emerging from her young age, Emine Sultan started to feel the impacts of the events and circumstances happening during her life time. She got engaged at the age of five, lost her father at the age of seven and was married off by her uncle Ahmed III. Her second spouse was executed. Emine Sultan whose life is full of such miseries suffered from the podagra illness for years and eventually passed away at the age of 43. The study commences with demonstrating the diplomatic, economic and social perspective of that time. In following chapters, the birth of Emine Sultan, her family, marriages and the life story of those people are concerned. Because of his affinity for Mustafa II and being one of the Grand-Vezirs during the reign of Ahmed III, Ali Pasha of Çorlu, the first spouse of Emine Sultan, his missions and foundation works are discussed in a wide outline. Her other spouses that she married, Receb Pasha and Aydın Muhasıllı Abdullah Pasha are treated in a shallow frame as they were assigned in comparably less significant ranks and there exists less information about them. In the last chapter, Emine Sultan's foundation and charities are assessed. In this work, when approaching the biography of a woman of dynasty, the necessity of not being accustomed to the effects of marriages done with political concerns on the lives of Sultans is questioned.
