Abstract (EN)
This thesis aims to reveal the architecturally depicted reverse types of Lycia, which were only seen in the Roman Imperial period during the reign of Gordian III, and to evaluate the place and iconographic meaning of these types within the urban coinage. Within the framework of the study, first of all, a literature review including the catalogs of the coins of the period was conducted. In addition to the catalog scans, various private museums and auction catalogs of recent periods were evaluated, and the coins depicting temples in these catalogs were documented. As a result of the compilations, a catalog study was made for these types and the types were interpreted within the framework of other archaeological and epigraphic data obtained from the cities. As a result of the studies, it was observed that six of the twenty cities that were minting coins during the Gordian III period minted coin types with architectural depictions on the reverse. Of these twenty-five types, 52% were minted by Myra, 16% by Akalissos, 12% by Patara, 8% by Aperlai, 4% by Korydalla and 4% by Gagai. As a result of the examinations made on the types containing temple depictions, it was seen that each city diversified the temple depictions within the framework of their own cult understanding, and these types were interpreted as trying to reveal the existence of a temple in the city rather than reflecting the architectural plan of the period, and the ideas presented within the framework of these predictions were concluded, evaluated in the section.
