Energy and exergy analysis of a two stage vapor compressed mechanical refrigeration cycle

Abstract (EN)

In this thesis, two stage vapor compressed mechanical cycle of a cooling facility are studied in terms of energy and exergy concepts. The experiments are carried out in the eight rooms of cooling facility as the cooling system is stable. The data regarding with temperature and pressure values are collected via thermocouples and pressure sensors from the predefined inlet-outlet regions and several critical cycle points. Volumetric flow rates of R-117 the cooling fluid are measured in liquid lines by an ultrasonic flowmeter. Later, enthalpy, entropy and specific volume of R-717 are calculated from the experiments using EES software. From the experiments and analysis, the energy and exergy losses of the each component of cooling system are found and compared with each other. It is found that the maximum losses are in the evaporator and compressors. The evaporative condenser comes after evaporator and compressors as a component with the highest losses. And also, there is plenty amount of energy and exergy losses in the ammonia pumps. Consequently, the first and second law efficiency of the system are determined to be %63.71 and %33.64, respectively.
