Social media usage levels of the personnel working in the communication institution: TRT example

Social media plays a big role in public opinion and politics. Communication styles of individuals have changed through social networks. Depending on the activities of the participants, social media not only strengthens social relations, but also plays an extensive role in the social lives of individuals. In this context, the aim of the study is to examine the social media usage levels of the employees in the communication institution. The research used a survey method which was conducted on 436 employees of TRT. The findings show, the social use levels of the participants with a working period of 1-5, 6-10 and 11-15 years were higher compared to 16-20 years ,21 years and above experienced ones. Cognitive use levels of the 41-50 years experienced are superior to the participants with 31-40 years experienced. In contrast to the participants with 16-20 years, 21 years or more experienced have advanced cognitive use levels. The cognitive use levels of the participants 11-15 and 21 years or more experienced, are surpassing in comparison to 1-5 years experienced participants. The cognitive use levels of the participants who greatly use Whatsapp are more advanced, in collation to the ones extensively use Instagram, Twitter and Youtube.Considering the social media usage scale of utilitarian sub-dimension , women are superior to their men colleagues. The utilitarian use levels of the participants with 6-10 years experience are higher than 21 years or more experienced ones. The utilitarian use levels of the participants who spend 8 hours or more on the Internet are greater than those who spend time between 0-1 hours. The research shows that the utilitarian use levels of the participants who spend 4-5 hours on social media are higher than those spend between 0-1 hours.
