Abstract (EN)
This study investigates the use of short story as a literary form in foreign language German teaching. In contradiction to traditional methods for analyzing literary texts, this study focuses on creative activities with German short stories by using communicative method, in order to enable students to play active roles in classes. The purpose of this study is to show the importance of short story as a literary form in foreign language German teaching together with creative activities and scientific literature, so that learning becomes more enjoyable and productive as well.The population of this study is the program in German Language Teaching of the Department of Foreign Languages Education at the Faculty of Education of Gazi University. The samples of this study are third year students in 2010-2011 Spring Term.The findings revealed the importance and necessity of a learning process with literary texts, rather than a text-based foreign language teaching. However, it was stated that it is better to take an active part and use techniques helping them improve their creativity, rather than using the traditional text analysis method which makes the students passive through the process of learning the foreign language. Classified according to four basic language skills, and their coordinated development was provided. In addition, the devlopment of students? personalities were positively influenced by literary texts and creative activities. The correct use of literary texts in the light of these findings provided a major contribition to foreign language learning was understood and concrete proposals were given in this regard.Keywords: Foreign Language Teaching, Communicative Method, Literary Texts, Short Story, Creative Activities.
