Abstract (EN)

This study is a descriptive survey study carried out to determine the point of view of classroom teachers about Social Sciences teaching in 4th and 5th grade classes. Reliability coefficient of the scale which is formed with expert opinion is 84.3. The study was carried out to determine the point of view of classroom teachers about the methods and techniques, materials and course books for Social Sciences and whether the lesson should be taught by classroom teacher or Social Science teachers and to compare these views according to gender, age, graduation and length of service. The survey, carried out in 2009 - 2010 educational year and consisting of 44 items, was applied to 250 classroom teachers from 31 primary schools of whom 131 are male and 119 are female. Descriptive statistics, t test and variance analysis were used to analyze the data acquired from the application. It was determined according to the results that teachers use most question-answer technique and use least trip-observation as teaching method; they use most pictures and least computerized board as teaching material. The teachers stated positive views on course books at the aspect of content and structure. They stated that Social Science should be taught cooperatively by both classroom teachers and Social Science teachers and they believe that teachers should undergo in service training. When teachers evaluated according to the variables it was observed that female teachers use materials more often than male teachers and teachers? collage graduates use materials less often than other field graduates. It was seen that there was a meaningful relationship between length of service and method, technique and the frequency of material using, between age, frequency of material using and agreement on Social Science should be taught by branch teachers. The longer teachers have length of service the more often they use method, technique and materials. The older the teachers are the more often they use materials and the more they think that Social Sciences should be taught by branch teachers. When the study results are evaluated as a whole it can be argued that teaching methods, techniques and materials should be varied, both classroom teachers and Social Sciences teachers should contribute to teaching and the teachers of the subject should undergo in service training. Keywords: Social Educatiom, Method, Technic, Materiel, Education, Behavior, Technology, Tenure Of Office, Age, Sex, Teacher, Student.
