The fifth grade primary school students' the level of acquisition of science processskils

The purpose of this study was to determine 5th grade primary school students? the level of acquisition of science process skills. The acquisition levels of students? science process skills were compared with the gender and socio-economic factors. The design of study was based on the survey method and the sample of study was 130 female and 158 male students selected from the province center of Usak at the 5th grade. The scale of study to measure 5th grade students? science process skills was developed by the researcher and the reliability coefficient of the scale was found 0.78 as Cronbach . For the validity of scale, the panel judges controlled the scale. In the result, when the science process skills were evaluated for gender, the mean of 5th grade female students was higher than that of male students but this difference was not statistically significant. At the base of school environment selected from different socio-economic status, the students coming from better socio-economic school environment have significantly higher science process skill means than the students coming from low level socioeconomic school environment. Additionally, 5th grade students could not attain the science process skills at the desired level (below 50%). Key Words: Science Process Skill, Science Education, Problem Solving Skills.
