Abstract (EN)
The aim of this study is to enhance 7th gradesrs? story writing skills by using activities that were prepared based on the preliminary activities. For that purpose 109 7th graders from Ankara Elmadağ Kurtuluş İlköğretim Okulu and Keçiören Orhan Gazi İlköğretim Okulu were included in the study. An experimental model was used, including comparison between control and experimental conditions in pre-test and post-test assessments.. In order to assess their story writing skills students were asked to choose one of the five topics that were suggested by academicians in Turkish literature and to write a story according to that topic as a pre-test. Then, stories that were written by students were evaluated by the researcher according to the Story Writing Evaluation Form that was prepared by the researcher herself and then analyzed by using SPSS 18.0.. After the pre-test students in the experimental group were given a 30 hours of story writing activities for four weeks. Students in the control group were not given such activities. Finally, in the post-test all students were asked to write a story on the same topic that they have chosen for the pre-test. Results showed that the students in the experimental group scores in the post-test were significantly higher than the scores in the pre-test except for three items (coherence, spelling, punctuation) when comparing students? scores in terms of separate items in the Story Writing Evaluation Form. Also, it was found that students in the experimental group had significantly higher scores in post-test than students in the control group except for three items (row pitch, spelling, punctuation). When scores of students were analyzed in terms of their total scores it was found that post-test scores of experimental group was significantly higher than the post-test scores of the control group. Keywords: Story Writing Skills, Writing Activities, 7th Graders
