Scientific literacy levels of elementary school students at primary schools

This study aims to identify the scientific literacy of students at primary school. Within the context of the research interpretation and illustration of concepts, creative thinking, and concluding skills at science lesson are defined as scientific literacy. An questionary form has been developed to explain the level of scientific literacy at science lesson. Regression and correlation analysis have been applied to the data in order to identify the scientific literacy level at science lesson. The average of scientific literacy level of 5th grade elementary school students is around 59% and this percentage is lower than expected results (70%). The scientific literacy level of the students has indicated meaningful relation with the variances such as subscription to a scientific magazine for children and education level of the parents. R2=0.67 has been found. It has been seen that the other independent variances has no effect on explaining the level of scientific literacy.Key words: Science, scientific literacy, science & technology, Scientific process skills.
