Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this study is to investigate the students perform folk dances to what extent they perceive the richness of our country?s culture in terms of folk dances. In addition to this, to propound their participation in different social groups and acquisition of communication skills during the process of communicating with peers and adults.Folk dances are known as socially substantial activities. Youngsters and children perform folk dances don?t fulfill only a simple folkloric event, but also experience different socializing process via gaining new communication skills on the environment of folk dancing.It has been observed that within the process of socializing these children and youngsters perform folk dances have been through some changes and developments on their aesthetic values and understandings. Can be asserted that the social observations made on these changes and developments reflect on some other social activities. Through the advantage of dancing as a collective, folk dances are strong mean of socializing which teaches to one to coalesce with his environment, to act as a group, to share and self expression.Indications and the results of this study might contribute to the other studies and investigations in this area, and also policy making and developing.In this study technics of public surveying, interviewing and observing have been used. Data have been acquired and construed by conducting questionnaire to 100 elementary school students. Opinions and observations of class teachers have been received. Also, the President of Turkish Folk Dances Federation has been interviewed. He has been asked questions and received opinions. Besides, my own observations and experiences are mentioned in this study.
