The job satisfaction level of primary school teachers (Çorum province sample)

This study aims at determining the job satisfaction of teachers working atstate primary schools and the factors that effect the levels of job satisfaction.In this study perceptions of teachers related to job and its chracteristic, thelevel of job, working conditions, supervision, pay, promotion possibilities,interpersonal relations and the atmosphere of the school, school-family relations areexamined according to branch, the length of service, educational level, sex andmarital status.In the study, to get data a job satisfaction inventory is used. The five-likert-type scale consists of five individual variables, thirty-five job related variables andnine dimensions.The universe of the study is the 1155 full time teachers at the primary schoolsin the province of Çorum during the 2004-2005 educational term. The sample of thestudy is the 550 teachers. It is a field work.As a result of the statistical analysis we have reached these findings:1. The general job satisfaction of primary school teachers is three point onesix five (3.165) out of five (5). In other words, teachers have a medium level of jobsatisfaction about their jobs.2. The highest job satisfaction dimension of teachers is the job and itschracteristic; the lowest one is the pay.3. The job satisfaction level of teachers have shown significant differences indifferent dimensions (job and its chracteristic, the level of the job, workingconditions, supervisison, pay, management, promotion possibilities, school-familyrelations and the atmosphere of the school) according to individual chracteristics(branch, the length of service, the level of education, sex and marital status). Thevariable that has shown the most difference is the length of service variable and thevariable that has shown the least difference is the sex variable.As a result, the resuts of the study has been put forward in the direction ofscientific data and suggestions have been made to the people and institutions that areable to direct teaching prefession with its all variables.
