Investigation of fertility adjustment of couples receiving infertility treatment and the factors affecting it

The aim of this study was to investigate the fertility adjustment levels of couples receiving infertility treatment and the factors affecting this. In addition, the relationships between various demographic variables and fertility adjustment level were examined. The population of the study consists of infertile couples who applied to the IVF Unit of Koç University Hospital between December 2018 and March 2019. In this context, 210 infertile couples were included in the study. Data were collected using Participant Identification Form and Fertility Adjustment Scale Form prepared by the researcher. Infertility treatment of women who were included in the study was 23.34 ± 4.89 and 20.57 ± 4.66 for men. Women's adaptation to fertility was found to be more positive. There was a statistically significant difference between fertility adjustment levels of women receiving infertility treatment and hormone treatment and having other children from marriage. There was no significant difference in terms of demographic variables such as age, education level, working status, monthly income, co-kinship status, chronic disease, cause of infertility, vaccination, IVF, and meeting current treatment and treatment costs. It was determined that there was a statistically significant difference between fertility adaptation levels of men receiving infertility treatment and having child from other marriage and cause of infertility. There was no statistically significant difference between age, education level, working status, monthly income, co-kinship status, chronic disease, varicocele treatment, TESA, TESE, and the cost of treatment. İn addition, no statistically significant relationship was found between fertility adjustment of women and their spouses. According to these results, it is important to provide needed services and provide psychological support in the process of diagnosis and treatment of infertility, especially due to poor male infertility adaptation. Since male and female adaptation to infertility may be independent of each other, individual adjustment levels of couples should be evaluated. Planning interventions that support couples' adaptation to infertility and coping with successful or unsuccessful treatment and strengthening healthcare personnel in this area is critical.
