Determining the metaphorical perceptions of civil engineering department students on the concept of "occupational healt and safety"

The construction sector is a sector where dangers and risks are intense. The environments created to ensure that the workers in the construction work without compromising their safety are called safe working environments. In order to provide this safe environment, many measures can be taken in the construction industry. In order to provide these safe environments, getting a good "Occupational Health and Safety" training is seen as a priority. Considering that this education is taken well and systematically within the scope of Occupational Health and Safety course of civil engineering students during the undergraduate period, it is thought that the accidents and problems to be experienced will be minimized. In this research, which was carried out with the science pattern, which is one of the qualitative research techniques, it was aimed to determine the metaphorical perceptions of civil engineering students about the "Occupational Health and Safety" course through metaphor analysis. The research group consists of a total of 105 students up to the 4th grade, including the Preparatory Class of Ege University, Karadeniz Technical University, Necmettin Erbakan University, Batman University and Istanbul Gelisim University, who continue their education in the 2021-2022 academic year. A Semi-Structured Interview Form developed by the researcher was used as a data collection tool in data collection. In the second stage of this form, which includes Demographic Information, university students are asked "Occupational Health and Safety ………… looks like ………." In the form of open-ended questions were prepared. The questions were collected in two different ways, face-to-face and via Google Forms. The collected data were analyzed by content analysis method and the metaphors were placed into categories by taking expert opinions. The categories are then explained in tabular form in the findings section. According to the data obtained from this part, where many metaphors were collected, many results emerged and were included in the conclusion part of the study.
