The comparison of the effectivenesses of human diploid cell vaccine (HDCV) and by second generation cell culture rabies vaccines

SUMMARY THE COMPARISON OF THE EFFECTIVENESSES OF HUMAN DIPLOID CELLS RABIES VACCINE (HDCV) AND BY SECOND GENERATION CELL CULTURE RABIES VACCINES Nuri Özkütük, M. D. Rabies is continuing to maintain its actuality and its importance in our country as well as in the entire world. In our country, for the post contact prophylaxis, the rather costly vaccines, by tissue culture, especially vaccines by human diploid cell origin (HDCV), are being used, and this results an important economic loss. The aim of this work has been to determine the rabies vaccine most advantageous, for our country by comparing the rabies vaccine by human diploid cells (HDCV), the purified chicken embrion cell culture vaccine (PCEC) and the purified vera cell rabies vaccine (PVRV), among tissue culture vaccines in use in Turkey, with respect of the effectiveness and the cost. The neutralizing antibody levels have been evaluated by the "ELISA with Vaccine Antigen" method developed by us, in serum specimens obtained, in the 30 th, 90 th days and in one year after the first inoculations, from the cases who applied to the Rabies Treatment Center of Konak in Izmir where prophylaxis started which various rabies vaccines (HDCV, PCEC, PVRV). When the results are evaluated, it was seen that with HDCV, PCEC and PVRV protective antibody ( 0.5 lU/ml) levels of 99%, 100% and 97.8% were developed respectively and there was no difference among the vaccines with respect to immunogenicity As a result it is decided that the vaccines PVRV and PCEC are as effective as HDCV Kev Words: Rabies, HDCV, PCEV, PVRV, vaccine, comparison, effectiveness, neutralizing antibody.
