Abstract (EN)
Introduction And Objective: Suicide is an important public health problem. This study aimed to improve understanding of genetic background of suicide behavior via examining the relationship between suicide atteptand SKA2 (rs7208505) / SAT1 (rs6526342) gen polymorphisms. Materials and Method: Following the obtaining necessary permissions, the blood samples were collected from the cases attempted suicide and healthy controls in the emergency services of the hospitals in Gaziantep province. Cases, the sereceived fluorescence radiation in qPCR methods taked into evaluation to identify SKA2 (rs7208505) and SAT1 (rs6526342) gene polymorphisms. For rs7208505 polymorphism 141 male and female patients and 137 male and female control cases; for rs6526342 polymorphism 90 female patients and 100 female control cases enrolled to the study. Sociodemographic datas of patient and control groups were statistically compared. Results: In our study, for SKA2 gene polymorphism (rs7208505) in patient group: 55 AA, 51 AG and 35 GG genotype; in control group 45 AA, 71 AG and 21 GG genotype were detected. For SAT1 gene polymorphism (rs6526342) in patient group: 14 AA, 66 AC and 10 CC genotype; in controlgroup 8 AA, 79 AC and 13 CC genotype were detected. In demographic datas of cases attempted suicide, the female/male ratio was 1.8; the most prevalantage was 15-29; the most frequent suicide method was drug intoxication. In addition, education and income levels of suicide attempted subjects were found to be low, psychiatric illnesses and harmful substance use rates were higher than control group. Conclusion: In our study there was statistically significant relation between suicide attemptand gene polymorphism in terms of rs7208505 genotype comparassion of patient and control group. There were no statistically significant relation between rs6526342 polymorphism and suicide attempt. These findings are thought to contribute to the relevant literature with new studies made with same polymorphism sand different sample groups.
