Abstract (EN)
As machine translation (MT) has proven to be an important part of translation-related activities, many studies have been conducted to understand the nature of MT, its advantages and disadvantages, its quality, etc. However, it has been found that there are not enough studies focusing on the perceptions of translator trainers in Türkiye. The starting point of this study is the lack of literature on translator trainers' views on MT. This study seeks to answer: 1- What do translator trainers in Türkiye think about MT? 2- Do translator trainers use MT systems in their courses when teaching translation? If so, for what purposes do they use them? 3- How can translator trainers improve their technology acceptance of MT? What can be done to encourage the acceptance of MT technology by translator trainers? Again, with the development of MT, a new concept called "MT literacy" has come to the fore. In short, this concept refers to the ability to understand the quality and limitations of MT systems and the ability to use and evaluate them. MT literacy requires the knowledge and skills to work effectively with MT tools and make informed decisions about their use. As MT technologies become more prevalent in our daily lives and various professional fields, the ability to understand and use MT effectively is becoming increasingly important. The objective of this study is to gain a deeper insight into the level of MT literacy among translation trainers in Turkey, with a particular focus on the three research questions that form the core of this study. In this study, a questionnaire was used to obtain the views of translation trainers on MT. This study yielded valuable insights into the perceptions of translator trainers in Türkiye on MT, their MT literacy, their MT use, and new topics for study to better use MT in translation training.
