Abstract (EN)

In this study, it was aimed to examine the effects of the new type of coronavirus on the anxiety states of elite athletes according to various variables. The differences between the personal information of elite athletes and the positive and negative effects of athletes' attitudes towards coronavirus during training and competition periods were tried to be examined. The study group of the research consisted of 154 male and 91 female athletes participating in the national team camps and actively participating in the races in the Turkish Athletics Federation. The analysis of the data in the research was made with SPSS 24.0. 'Personal Information Form' and Demir et al. (2020) 'Athletes' Anxiety of Conceiving Novel Coronavirus Scale (SYTKYKÖ)' was used as a data collection tool. According to the results of the analysis, the mean score of individual anxiety was 39.90, the mean score of socialization anxiety was 11.31, and the mean score of the athletes' anxiety about catching the new type of coronavirus was 51.22. In the study, no significant difference was observed in the anxiety and sub-dimensions of the athletes in terms of age, sports age, catching coronavirus and being in the Olympic team. It was observed that the difference in individual anxiety scores was higher in sprinters and lower in jumping athletes compared to average scores. Individual anxiety and socialization anxiety differed in terms of educational status. There was a significant difference between the anxiety score of contracting coronavirus, individual anxiety and anxiety of contracting coronavirus. When the coronavirus pandemic process is examined in terms of the effect of success and anxiety, it has been observed that the difference between the individual anxiety score and the anxiety score of the athletes catching the coronavirus is higher than the average score, while the score of not having an effect is lower. While it was observed that the anxiety and individual concerns of the elite athletes were high, the socialization anxiety remained at a lower level as a result of the bans and isolation experienced during this period.
