Abstract (EN)

The study was conducted on osteoporosis patients to predict the effect of insulin resistance by using the term of HOMA-IR on the pathophysiology of the disease. The achievement of this goal was required the selection of people based on their HOMA-IR with matched age, waist circumference and body mass index (BMI). Clinically, fasting glucose, insulin, HOMA-IR, and glycated hemoglobin were increased in part of osteoporosis patients, and accordingly these patients were isolated as a separated group from osteoporosis patients with normal insulin sensitivity. Calcium level was non-significantly changed when compared among the control and osteoporosis patients with and without insulin resistance. Phosphorus on the other hand was decreased significantly in osteoporosis patients with HOMA-IR. Alkaline phosphatase activity was increased significantly in osteoporosis patients with HOMA-IR. Furthermore, the levels of C-terminal telopeptide of type I collagen and osteocalcin were increased significantly in the serum of osteoporosis patients with HOMA-IR compared to those without HOMA-IR and to control group. According to the results of this study, HOMA-IR can be considered as a key influencer on the pathophysiology of osteoporosis
