Abstract (EN)
In the patriarchal society, women have been working for centuries to change their current position and to show that they can do things beyond the roles assigned to them. As a reflection of this, the idea that there is no harm in working for women if they fulfill their responsibilities within the family has come to the fore in recent years. While the expectations from women have not changed for centuries, this study has tried to reveal the work-family conflict situations of female academics working in an academic environment, which is considered to be relatively more prestigious in terms of their fields of study, by using both qualitative and quantitative research methods. In the study carried out on state universities throughout Turkey, a work-family conflict scale questionnaire was applied to 394 female academicians, and face-to-face interviews were conducted with 20 female academicians. According to the results of the research, it has been seen that family and especially children are an important cause of conflict for female academicians, women tend to have as few children as possible in order to get rid of the disadvantages of this situation, and they plan their childbearing processes depending on the doctorate and associate professorship processes. It has been determined that spouse and family support are very important factors in this process and relatively younger female academicians are more advantageous in this respect. It has been observed that single female academicians experience work-related conflict intensely, and there are quite a lot of expectations from them due to being single.
