The effect of job stress and job skills on meaningfulness of job: A field research

Today, work life covers a large part of most people's lives and stress at work has become a serious problem for many employees. Job stress can negatively affect employee performance and job satisfaction. In addition, job resourcefulness also has a large impact on job performance and satisfaction. At this point, the meaningfulness of the job appears as the level of satisfaction with the job that the person does. In this context, the aim of this research is to find an answer to the question of whether job stress and job resourcefulness have an effect on the meaningfulness of the job. For this purpose, a study was conducted with a Toplam of 206 participants, 81 women and 125 men, working in a public institution operating in the press sector. In accordance with the purpose of the study, a questionnaire of 36 questions was created by using the "Work Stress Scale", "Job Skills Scale" and "The Meaningfulness of Work Scale", as well as demographic information, in order to determine the general characteristics of the participants, and the data were collected with this method. In the light of the data obtained, reliability analysis, frequency analysis, normality test, exploratory factor analysis, multiple correlation and multiple regression analyzes were performed. As a result of the analyses, in summary, it was determined that job crafting had a positive and very strong correlation effect on the meaningfulness of the job, while a negative, non-significant correlation effect was detected between job stress and the meaningfulness of the job. This situation was also confirmed by multiple regression analysis. At the end of the study, recommendations were developed for workplaces and future employees.
