The relationship between job boredom and cyberloafing: An application in a public institution

The use of information technologies by the organization for non-work purposes during working hours is expressed as cyberloafing. While there are positive factors that push employees to cyberloafing, there are also negative factors. One of these factors is thought to be boredom at work. The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between boredom and cyberloafing behaviors of public sector employees at work. Questionnaire method was used in the research and the said questionnaire consists of three parts. The population of the research consists of the administrative staff of Hitit University (including 4D contracted personnel). The survey data, in which 242 people participated, were analyzed with the SPSS 23 Program (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences). When the results of the study were evaluated statistically, a positive and significant relationship was found between the participants' levels of boredom at work and their cyberloafing behaviors. When the effect size of the relationship was examined, it was determined that boredom at work significantly affected the sub-dimensions of cyberloafing as a communication channel, personal use, non-work-related use, unethical use, and daily-routine use.
