Achievement effect of cooperative learning on teaching science in basic education

The purpose of the present research is to investigate effects of cooperative learning and whole class instruction on academic achievement. Subjects (n=80) were randomly selected from among regular forth graders in an elementary scholl in İzmir. Groups were randomly assigned to control an experimental conditions. Treatment lasted for twenty class hours. An achievement test which containes 25 multiple choice items was administered at the end of the treatment. Results indicate that subjects in cooperative condition scored higher than the subjects in control class at achievement.
