Suggestions for marble i̇ndustry and planning in the county of iİscehisar

Afyonkarahisar is a provincial administrative area which has a significance both in Turkey and across the world in terms of its marble potential. That this potential may be made use of this potential as necessary shall contribute to both the region's and country's economy. That Afyonkarahisar province and especially İscehisar county have come into prominence in the marble industry is of course closely related to the geological structure of the region. Factors such as feasibility of the geological structure, proximity to raw materials, location of the marble quarries, development of transportation networks, proximity of Iscehisar to the city center make possible to provide manpower easily which is required for the marble industry. Iscehisar has a corner on share 13% of Turkish marble export volume. Today İscehisar county makes marble trading with 115 countries. Income obtained form this trading is approximately $74 million in a year. In addition to these advantages, the marble factories bring along with improper land using, noise, visual pollution and solid waste problems. The geographical conditions of the area should be analyzed in all aspects in order to prevent such environmental problems and it should be made plans suitable to those conditions. In this regard, Geographic Information Systems have a serious contribution. It can be determined convenient areas for the marble industry by making various analyses. In this study, the marble industry areas within İscehisar county have been examined in all aspects and it has been made convenient area analysis for factories which will be recently established and it has been tried to determine new routes which will provide connection to these areas.
