Abstract (EN)

In the dairy industry calf diarrhoea is a major cause of heavy economic looses because of its high morbidity and mortality. In the present study our aim was to determine important acute phase protein levels in calves with diarrhoea and to find out possible realtionships between clinical symptoms and acute phase protein levels. The researchers have not encountered enough reference information from previous studies concerning acute phase protein concentrations in calves. It is tought that the results of this study may help in building up the treatment and to find out the severity of the disease.The materials of this study was 25 calves with diarrhoea from different sex and breeds aging 2 to 60 days. The daignosis of diarrhoea was performed by observing basic clinical data such as the number of defecations per day (>4 times in a day), density of the gaita and the score of dehydration. Ten clinically healty calves were used as the control group. The animals in the experimental group were divided into three as mild, moderate and severe dehyrated calves.Haematologic and biochemical parameters and acute phase protein concentrations were significantly increased in calves with diarrhoae while there was an important correlation in between dehydration scores and acute phase protein levels. These results may give important information to clinicians about the severity and the prognosis of the disease. Besides it is thought that the results may be used as a reference for futher studies.Key words: Diarrhoae, acute phase proteins, calf.
