The psychosocial dimension of unemployment and it`s efect`s on the value of work life

Present-day, both societies and individuals are suffering from prevailing chronic, complex and globalised problems. In near future and beyond among these problems, unemployment will seriosly effect the economic, social, cultural and physio-social situation of the society. Unemployment is a process that an individual's life concept can easily be changed by its existence to the extent that individuals' attribution of importance. In this study, psychosocial problems caused by unemployment have been examined and the changing value of the working life taken into consideration along with these psychosocial problems due to unemployment. Thesis consists of four parts including both theorie and application. First part includes, concept of unemployment and similar literature, the causes of unemployment, the variety of unemployment and the ratio of the unemployment in Turkey and some other countries. Second part is about the explanation of psychosocial problems occured in individuals because of unemployment, the effect zone of the unemployment, its cost to the society and the effect of psychosocial dimension of the unemployment on labour market. The third part which is the last theorie part in the thesis, classified the values of the working life, the basic motivation theories that are in the centre of the process of changing values, examined the conditions of the change in terms of the society and studied the interaction of the working life's values. In the application part of the thesis, the outlook of the demographic and employment situation of İzmir - the city in which the application took part- and the Aegean Region been examined. After this general outlook, İzmir Police Department's study which is about to build a meaningful relation between unemployment and crime has been added into the part and lastly my inquiry on the psychosocial consequences of the unemployment and the study to confirm the working life values which is realized in İzmir Public Employment Office has been added into thesis.
