Evaluation of medical CBRN awareness trainings for 112 Emergency Health Care workers in Istanbul European Side

Abstract (EN)
Chemical, biological, radiogical and nuclear (CBRN) hazards have potential serious risk on emergency medical services management in Turkey as in whole the world. Medical CBRN Awareness training programme has been providing by İstanbul Health Directorate for 112 Emergency health services field staff since 2017 to raise awareness about CBRN cases, to increase the basic knowledge about CBRN materials, to introduce CBRN individual logistic equipments, tounder stand of protection and decontamination process and learn correct methods of response to CBRN. The aim of this study was to evaluate the medical CBRN awareness trainings given to 112 Emergency Health Services employees on the European side of Istanbul. 668 employees of 112 emergency health services have been participated to the current study who has pretest and posttest scores of training programme. Demographic findings was that %49,41 of the participants were female (N=338), %50,59 of the participants were male (N=330); %38,02 of the participants were emergecy medical technician, %43,11 was paramedic; %35,18 (N=235) of the participants had high school degree, %7,63 had (N=51) university degree, %53,15 (N=355) had vocational school degree, %4,04 had (N=27) master degree; %14,97 (N=100) of the participants were between the age of 20-24, %65,57 (N=438) was between 25-28, %15,87 was between (N=106) 29-32, %3,59 (N=24 kişi) was between 33-37; %77,20 of the participants had (N=516) 1-3 years work experience %19,50 had (N=130) 4-6 years, %2,55 (N=17) had 7-9 years, %0,75 had (N=5) more than 10 years experience; pretests corewas 60,00 and posttest score was 75,00 and the difference was statistically significant (p<.000); while pretest score of female participants was 75,00, male participants was 65,00 and the difference was not statistically significant (p>.05); while posttest score of female participants was 85,00, male participants was 80,00 and the difference was not statistically significant (p>.05). It is recommended to improve the visual and applied training methods; to extendand to standardize this training module as other training modules of Ministry of Health of Turkeysuch as Core Module, ÇİLYAD etc; to prepare more understandable and simple training materials as CBRN cases are very much complicated situations; and to take the advantage of scenario, demonstration and exercise techniques on CBRN training modules.
