Abstract (EN)

With the aim of proposing a plan for a biennale, this study investigates the birth and development of the concept of biennale at both national and international level to address the abovementioned aim. Within this scope, the underlying logic of the design of a biennale is studied through the analysis of the themes and some important works displayed of the international Istanbul biennials and design biennales organized by Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts from their beginnings. This study, which specifically focuses on Istanbul Design Biennials, is descriptive, exploratory and qualitative in research design with a literature review as its main method of data collection. According to the results of the study, the process for a design biennial from its planning to final execution includes stages such as the specification of its theme, the selection of its venues and artists and finding sponsors. The proposed plan for a biennial in the light of these steps is also explained in the study, results related to the topic of study are also discussed and some suggestions are made as well.
