Abstract (EN)
The purpose of the study is to find out the rate of tobacco usage, and factors among Nigerian University students living in Istanbul, Turkey. To assess these challenges and understand their impact on students, this cross-sectional study was conducted. Nigerian university students living in Istanbul Turkey were chosen as the study population. The Instrument used to collect the data was a questionnaire. This study used a descriptive Survey research design approach. A total of 348 respondents comprising of 183 males(52.6%) and 165 females(47.4%) from Nigeria who are Undergraduates and Graduate students were employed for the study. The participants ages were within the range of 15-34. There was no association between place of residence, demographic factor(marital status) and current tobacco usage. However, there is an association between educational level and current tobacco usage. The perception of tobacco hazards influences usage of tobacco products. Finally, there is a correlation between the amount of discomfort caused by tobacco smoke and being an active smoker. SPSS version 26 was used. Data were analyzed using Inferential and Descriptive methods. (P<0.05) was considered statistically significant for the analysis, which included descriptive and chi-square statistics. In summary, these findings reveals the low rate of tobacco products among the study population.
