ABSTRACT Ms. D. Thesis CALCULATION OF REFRACTION AND TRANSMISSION INDICES OF HF WAVES IN THE IONOSPHERE Gülsen CEYLAN Fırat University Granduate school of Natural and Applied Science Department of Physics 2004, Page: In this thesis, reflection (R) and transmission (T) coefficients have been calculated for perpendicular and oblique propagations of the electromagnetic wave in the horizontally stratified ionosphere. Calculations are carried out between 01.00-10.00 LT. The altitudinal and seasonal variations of R and T have been investigated. While the value of R and T are constant between 01.00-05.00 LT, the change in the values have been observed between 05.00-06.00 LT. The reflection height of the electromagnetic wave is height during the seasous while its electron density is low. If the angle between vertical and propagation vector of the wave is large, the reflection height is low. Key Words: Reflection,Refraction, Transmission, Electron Density II
