Abstract (EN)

Turkish Armed Forces seized the power of Democratic Party (DP) on 27th of May 1960 due to it's wrong policies. After the Military İntervention, the political activities which were stopped for a while, began again on 12th January 1961 with the allowance of the establishment of political parties. On 11th February 1961, mainly including Justice Party (JP) under the presidency of Ragıp Gümüşpala, several political parties were established. With the establishment of the JP, Turkish public opinion believed that this new party was the heir of DP. That JP could easily be organized throught the country could have been provided through the takeover of DP's regional heritage. Gümüşpala founded the first organization of his party under the chairmanship Mehmet Ali Aytaş on 27th February 1961 in İzmir. The JP was organized in Izmir in a fast and invulnerable way. Indeed, JP made a breakthrough in it's political life in 1964 with the election of Süleyman Demirel as a president. JP which came to power without the support of a coalition partner between 1965 and 1971 and with the support of coalition partners mainly in 1970's was closed with the other political parties after the 12th September Military Coup. In Izmir, the JP became the first party in three elections from 1961 to 1969; however, fell into a decline since 1973 elections. After this election, Osman Kibar who was the Legendary Mayor in JP in İzmir lost his position and İhsan Alyanak in CHP won the election. In addition, with the loss of the 1977 elections, the JP completely lost its power in Izmir and Izmir was governed by the CHP until 12th of September.
