Abstract (EN)
The province of Izmir which takes place within the West Anatolian Extensional Province is a region that is active on the part of seismic structure and also extending toward K-G direction (Sengör, 1979). With the movements caused by North Anatolian Fault, East Anatolian Fault and Agean Gutter since the Miyosen age, this province has been changing its structure through breaking to pieces. As a result of this folding and faulting of the earth's crust, West Agean has been taken its form from the sediment-elevation basins which are subjected to normal faults. Izmir Bay takes place in the extending part of Gediz Graben which is one of those basins. The aim of this thesis is to define the formation of Izmir Bay and the faults affecting the bay. The faults existing in the south and north side of the bay are examined. The faults in the north side are mapped into three parts named as northeast, northnorthwest and approximately east-west extensions. In this study, it is found that Izmir Fault in the south is not formed as a result of a single broken piece, but a lot of segments with different lengths. Data used in this study is prepared in accordance with the Geographical Information Systems methodology. Numerical maps are formed by collecting the land data and entering them into the computer. Active faults controlling the bay and its effects on the seismic structure of province are explained by using these numerical maps
