İzmirli İsmail Hakkı's understanding of hadith

One of the lessons given at Faculty of Theology at Darûlfünûn is History of Hadith. One of the scholars who gave this course is İzmirli İsmail Hakkı, who has a lot of studies in the fields of kalam, fiqh, ethics and philosophy. Izmirli were made his hadith lecture notes into a book and some of them were recently published. It has been tried to reveal the similarities and differences of İzmirli's thoughts and views on the science of hadith and field of hadith by making comparisons with classical hadith works. In the first part of the study, the concept of the prophet and the necessity of prophethood according to İzmirli, his thoughts on the place of hadith science in the classification of sciences and the history of hadith are discussed. In the second part of the study, the definition of hadith and sunnah covering İzmirli's understanding of hadith, the importance, subject and purpose of hadith, the news/hadith division, sound and good hadiths in acceptable news, weak and fabricated hadiths in merdud news, hadiths in terms of the end of isnad, his thoughts on criticizing Imâmîyya's hadith understanding are mentioned and compared with classical hadith works.
