Abstract (EN)

Wireless multimedia sensor networks are used in many different environments (land, sea and underground). The fact that the sensing nodes used in these networks, which do not require any infrastructure installation costs, have a limited energy source, has caused the problem of efficient use of energy for long system life. Media data (audio or video) is a compressible data type. Maximum energy consumption is realized by the sensor node in the data transfer stage. In this context, reducing the data size reduces the amount of energy consumed. In this study, a method which can be used in wireless multimedia sensor networks and which aims to improve image compression performance has been developed. The method is based on performing compression according to the degree of variation in the areas varying between a presumed reference picture previously taken by the sensor node and the picture it is currently taking. With the proposed method, it performs compression process according to the importance level in the area which is considered important. In addition, an encryption process was performed without increasing the size of the data to be transmitted in order to prevent the unauthorized persons from capturing the compressed data.
