ABSTRACT Master Thesis Bioaccumulation of Cadmium (II) and Copper (II) Ions From Binary Metal Mixtures by P.putida Gülden Gültekin Fırat University Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences Department of Environmental Engineering 2005, Page : 89 In this study; the effect of several parameters such as initial pH, temperature, initial metal ion concentration and initial glucose concentration on the growth of P. putida were investigated in the growth media containing cadmium and copper ions individually or together in stirred reactor working batch system. In the growth of P. putida media containing cadmium and copper ions individually optimum pH value were 4.5 and 3.0; in the growth media containing with binary mixture cadmium (II) and copper (II)' s equal concentrations pH=3.5 value were found, respectively, in the batch stirred reactor. It was determined that P. putida could grow at optimum temperature 30 C in the media containing cadmium (II) ions, at 25 C in the media containing copper ions and at 30° C in the media containing both of them with equal concentrations. In the growth media containing the metal ions individually the initial metal ion concentrations were taken 50 mg/L and in the growth media same where metal ion concentrations were in equal amounts initial metal ion concentrations were taken 5 mg/L. In the conditions containing cadmium (II) and copper (II) ions individually and together, glucose concentration was observed to be 20 mg/L. In the media containing cadmium (II) and copper (II) ions individually, as it was found that the maximum removed results of these metals were % 67.4 ve % 44.68; with increasing metal concentrations the remove results individually decreased to % 30.49 and 28.04; in the media containing with binary mixture cadmium (II) and copper (H)' s equal concentrations it was seen that for cadmium (II) ion with increasing metal concentrations the result decreased from % 30.34 to 10.87 and for copper (II) ion the result decreased from % 24.12 to 7.49.
