Abstract (EN)

Aim: Our study with the prediction of lateralization; The aim of this study was to compare the relationships between the quality of life, activities of daily living, stress perception and upper extremity motor evaluation of lesions in the dominant and recessive hemispheres of female and male hemiplegic patients. Materials and Method: Our study was conducted with a total of 62 hemiplegic patients, 28 women and 34 men. 33 right hemiplegic and 29 left hemiplegic patients voluntarily participated in our study. The patients' level of independence in activities of daily living were evaluated with the Barthel Activities of Daily Living Index, their stress levels were evaluated with the Perceived Stress Scale, their upper extremity motor skills were evaluated with the Fugl-Meyer Upper Extremity Motor Rating Scale, and their quality of life was evaluated with the Stroke-Specific Quality of Life Scale. The hand preferences of the patients were examined with the Edinburgh Lateralization Questionnaire. Obtained data were analyzed with IBM SPSS Statistics version 26.0. Results: Upper extremity motor skill levels of patients with left hemisphere lesions were found to be significantly higher and their perceived stress levels were lower. Among left-handers, left hemiplegics have higher levels of perceived stress and independence in activities of daily living than right hemiplegics, and right hemiplegics have higher upper extremity motor skills. Among right-handed people, left hemiplegics have higher quality of life scores than right hemiplegics. Conclusion: It has been determined that right-handed patients with paralysis on the dominant side are more affected by the independence of daily living activities and quality of life parameters, while left-handed patients with dominant side paralysis are more affected by the perceived stress and upper extremity motor skill parameter.
