The activities of women parliamentarians in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (1946-1960)

Turkish women have had the opportunity to access the right to political representation, an indispensable element of democracy, before many states governed by the democratic regime in the World. Since 1935, women parliamentarians served in the Turkish Grand National Assembly. Another indispensable element of democracy is polyvocality. Turkey accepted as the beginning of a multi-party transition to life the 14-year period until the 1960 revolution in 1946, it has a very importance for the Turkish political life. Tens of books, thesis and articles have been written about this period until today. In addition, many symposiums and panels etc.were organized. In this period, the parliamentary activities of the woman parliamentarians at the Turkish Grand National Assembly have not been still clarified enough. At this thesis we have done, different from the others so far; the evaluation was made by analyzing the speeches made by women parliamentarians from the head of parliament and by referring to the remarkable parts of their speech. Women parliamentarians mostly talked about national education, family-woman-child, justice and health. By their activities in the political representation arena; we see that they led the social life with their approaches to the solution of the country's problems and how the country will develop. From 1946 to 1960, foreign language-speaking women parliamentarians, having higher education levels made their voices heard in their own periods with their work, By gathering the responsibilities of their positions, their education, professions and motherhood-femininity identities and thanks to the different approaches they brought to the issues.they made their presence felt in the parliament.
