The determinants of female participation to labour force

Many studies have been conducted to examine the factors that determine women's labor force participation. According to the studies, it has been determined that the most important factors are the education level of the woman and the income level of the family. The marital status of the woman, her age, how many children she has, whether she lives in the countryside or in the city, whether she owns the house she lives in, and the education level of her husband are other important factors. In addition to socio-demographic characteristics, cultural, social and political factors such as the policies followed by the states, accessibility to kindergartens and pre-school education institutions, cultural attitudes, gender discrimination and traditional perspective are also determinative in determining women's participation in the workforce. In this study, it is aimed to investigate the factors that determine women's labor force participation throughout Turkey. For this purpose, logit model analyzes were performed with a data set of 484 people by analyzing the answers of women and married men in a sample of 603 people. The results of the analysis showed that education level, household income, marital status and number of children were the most important factors on women's labor force participation decisions.
