Identification of the emotional and social neccessities of husbands or wives giving care to patients with cancer

Investigation was made as definitive for identification of the emotional andsocial neccesities of husbands or wives who give care to patients with cancer. 100patients who had been treated in Oncology and Hematology departments betweenJanuary 2005-June 2005 were included. ?Personel Information Form? and ?Form forIdentifying Emotional and Social Problems? which was improvised by theinvestigetor were used for data collection. One-Way Anova, One Sample Test andIndependent Sample Tests were used for data evaluation.According to the results obtained in the investigation, veriables affecting theemotional problems of the husbands or wives giving care to the patients with cancerwere; type cancer, educational status of the pairs, occupations of pairs, income status,shearing position of the married and daily care period. Social problems wereaffecded by cancer type, period after diagnosis of cancer, educational statusoccupations, income status of pairs, period of married and daily care period. Inconclusion, important differences have been determined in the emotional and socialnecessities of husbands or wives giving care to patients with cancer and propersuggestions are improvised.Key words: Cancer, Husband or wife of a patient, emotional and socialneccessities, giving care.
