Abstract (EN)
Bioinformatics is an inter-disciplinary science that resulting from intersection of computer science, mathematics and statistics, which aims and evaluates collecting of information about biological system and events. The aim of bioinformatics is to obtain information supplied from biological events and to create databases for storing this information and to provide description of biological events at molecular level by means of informatics technologies.Data mining is a process of finding out and discovering of interesting information such as patterns, changes, deviations, tendencies, specific structures and relationships between data in huge databases or data warehouses. In a simpler definition, data mining is to obtain ?valuable information? among the large-scale data. By this way, it is possible to find out relationships among the data and if necessary, to predict forward projection. Classification methods in data mining allow the distribution of data into groups with previously known attributes according to the established model. In this study, classification methods have been applied to microarray data in the bioinformatics field. As a result of applied algorithms, data taken from being potentially cancered cells has been aimed to classify samples correctly. Here, it has been carried out analyses for various cancer types. Support Vector Machines, Naive Bayes, K-Nearest Neighbour and Linear Discriminant Analysis classifiers are used as classification methods.
