Abstract (EN)

In Turkey, when the studies about past earthquakes are considered, heavy overhangs are among the causes of building damage. Within the scope of the thesis, reference buildings which has nothing irregularities with 2, 4 and 6 storeys representing the existing building stock have been created. Then, 1.5 m distances from to these buildings were added and the beams and with without beams. In the Sap2000 program of these building models, a total of 36 buildings, including x and y directions, were analyzed by using linear and nonlinear elastic time history analysis. With 24 earthquakes, 864 analysis results were analyzed and interpreted. As a result of the analysis, the base shear force ratio, roof drift ratio and interstory drift ratio values were found from the building models. These values were compared between the reference building and the building models with heavy overhangs. In building models with heavy overhang, the base shear force is low and displacements are generally higher than the reference building. According to the linear analysis, the overall shear force is generally higher in all building models, whereas the roof drift ratio and interstory drift ratio values are generally lower than the nonlinear analysis.
