Abstract (EN)

T.C. General Directorate of Highways (GDH) performs permanent, portable and special 3 different traffic counts at highway sections of the freeways, state and provincial highways.Automatic Vehicle Counts (OTS) method is used only for counting number of vehicles. On the other hand Automatic Vehicle Classification Counts (OTSS) method is not only used for counting number of vehicles but also classifyingies vehicle types with respect to vehicle weight, axle type and axle distance. In this thesis, seasonal 7 / 24 hours traffic count data have been collected by MetroCount (MC) equipment which is for Automatic Vehicle Classification Counts, between 2004-2008 at 40 highway sections placed at GDH 4th Region network which covers Ankara and neighboring cities or towns, has been used. By concerning seasonal impacts, average daily traffic and average operating speeds have been estimated for annual and seasonal basis. Like analyzing highway sections as whole, they have clustered and discriminated to 3-6 groups to imply bath traffic volumes as low, moderate and high, and operating speeds as low and high All these groups have been analysed by iterative procedure of estimation. Besides, modelling of highway network traffic has been used for estimating traffic data of highway sections having any traffic measure. Keywords : Transportation Engineering, Modelling of Road Network Traffic, Vehicle Count
