Abstract (EN)
Key Words: Birch Reduction, Carbazole, N-Methylcarbazole The reduction of aromatic rings by solutions of alkali metals in liquid ammonia was discovered by Wooster and Godfrey in 1937. Arthur John Birch greatly extended theirs observations and, as aresult, the so-called Birch reduction has found considerable utility in synthetic organic chemistry. Birch reduction products or intermediates formed these reactions serve as starting materials for many target molecules. Birch reductions are carried out with an alkali metal in liquid NH3 solution usually with a co-solvent such as THF and always with an alcohol or related acid to protonate intermediate radical anions or related species. In this work, hydrocarbazole derivates from carbazole and N-methylcarbazole by Birch reduction in room temperature and investigate effect of used alchol on yield rate have investigated.
