Examination of employment and overeducation in Kastamonu labor market

This study was conducted to reveal the educational levels of service sector employees and their positions in the workplace in the context of the phenomenon of overeducation. The study, which evaluates the educational experiences and job search experiences of service sector employees who are mismatched with the work they do, as well as the jobs they work in terms of the education they receive, has a sample in which people who have completed formal education at least at the undergraduate level are selected as participants. Snowball and judgmental sampling techniques were utilized in the study in which the phenomenology method was used. Under the heading of themes created according to the sub-objectives, the findings obtained from the semi-structured interview form, which is a data collection tool, were interpreted by getting rid of the cryptic situation. When the employment status of over-educated individuals is evaluated in the perspective of the education they received, it is concluded that the wages, working conditions, and their willingness to change jobs are below their expectations.
