Investigation of memories of Cyprus Veterans in terms of values included in the social studies teaching program

In this study, it is aimed to examine the memories of Cyprus Veterans in terms of the values included in the Social Studies. Additionally, one of our aims is to bring to light the memories of veterans who participated in the Cyprus Peace Operation. In the study firstly Cyprus and then theoretical information about values is included. In the study, the case study model, which is among the qualitative research designs, was used. The study group of the research consists of 30 Cyprus veterans fromin Malatya, determined by purposeful sampling method. In the research interview technique was used as the data collection method and semi- structured interview form was used as the data collection tool. The data collected in the research were analyzed using the content analysis technique. From memories obtained from veterans; ten thematic areas were determined regarding the values of patriotism, giving impotance to family unity, peace, independence, solidarity, sensitivity, freedom, love and responsibility. When the memories in ten categories were examined it was seen that the values of patriotism, solidarity value of cooperation and giving importance to family unity came to the fore the most.When the research evaluated holistically it can be said that the memories of Cyprus Veterans have rich content in terms of the values included in the Social Studies Curriculum. As a result of the research, various suggestions were made regarding the memories of Cyprus veterans and the use of these memories in teaching values.
