IV SUMMARY Masters Thesis POSITION CONTROL OF BUTTERFLY VALVES with COMPUTER Erol KILIÇKAP Fırat University Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences Department of Mechanical Engineering 1997, Page: 75 The butterfly valves have been widely used in the control of city water supply and agricultural watering systems because of its low opening force and power loss. In these controls, the on/off position of valve is done by manual, gearbox, servomotor and pnomatic or electrical actuators. The design, manufacture and computer control of butterfly valves gearbox have been studied using a gearbox model setup in the university. In the model the effects of input fluid to valve and friction forces on the torque of valves on/off position have been determined. In this study, firstly, variousV pressures in the model ( 1, 2, 3, 4. 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 daN/cm ) were used to obtain the opening torque of the valve. Later, the difference of input and output pressures (0.1, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8, 1, 2, 4, 6, 8 daN/cm2) were setup to obtain the effect of fuild flow on the valve's torque using different opening in graphics. In conclusion of this study, the mathematical model of the system has been determined angles (10°, 20°, 30°, 40°, 50°, 60, 70, 80°, 90° ). Results of the experiments has been shown using constants for general application. KEY WORDS: Butterfly valves.
