Abstract (EN)

In this thesis, the behaviour of arch dams under dynamic loadings has been searched and the finite element methods which is used for this problem, has been explained. The problem has been considered in two dimensional analysis. The Gökçekaya Dam has been chosen for the numerical example. Dynamic analysis of the dam has been conducted both for the case of the dam is full and the foundation is fixed by finite element method and SAP2000 packet program. The behaviour under earthquake loading has been calculated by using design spectrum which had been developed by Housner for El ? Centro earthquake of 1940 which had ground acceleration of 0.33g. The hydrodynamic effect of water has been considered by using added mass (Westergaard) approximation. The distribution of the stresses on the dam has been shown with izostress curves.
