Investigation of the adherence behavior between concrete and reinforcement on self compacting concrete

Abstract (EN)
In this study, steel, glass fiber and basalt fiber rebars? adherence behaviors through bending were comparatively investigated with the method of Belgium hinged beam (BHB) in the samples of self compacting concrete (SCC). Experimental studies were conducted in two stages within the thesis. In the first stage; SCC which have totally 19 different mixtures, including 1 control, mineral admixture (fly ash (FA)-granulated blast furnace slag (GBFS)) with 6 different rates, and viscosity modifier powder additive (calcite) instead of aggregate together with 12 mineral admixtures were produced. Fresh properties tests and hardened properties tests after 7, 28 and 90 days curing were conducted on produced SCC series. At the second stage, 3 different concrete types chosen among 19 different SCC mixtures. 54 samples of BHBs including basalt fiber rebar, glass fiber rebar and steel rebar were produced. By the help of the adherence tests through bending experiments conducted on produced beams after 28 and 90 days curing, both mineral admixtures? effects on adherence were observed and all rebars? adherence behaviors for each type of concrete were compared. In conclusion, using calcite instead of aggregate and using mineral admixture instead of cement positively affected concretes? rheological properties. When mineral admixtures substituted as high volume, in comparison with normal concrete, the concretes showing adequate mechanical performance had been able to be produced. Additionally, mineral admixtures were observed to have developed mechanical properties depending upon the duration of curing. In adherence tests through bending experiments, glass fiber rebar displayed the worst performance in terms of both tensile strength and adherence performance. Basalt fiber rebar displayed a tensile strength at the desired level and a good adherence performance similar to ribbed steel rebar in concretes produced within this study. It was concluded that the method of forming rib was an important factor in basalt and glass fiber rebars? adherence behaviors.
