IV ABSTRACT Master Thesis MODELLING OF STEADY AND TRANSIENT STATE BEHAVIOUR OF SELF- EXCITED ASYNCHRONOUS GENERATOR Sencer ÜNAL Fırat University Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering 2002-Page: 73 The energy demand has been increasing day by day due to technological developments. However the energy sources oven the world are limited and this increases the importance of renewable energy sources. Since the renewable energy sources have time-dependent regimes, the machines used in production of energy from these sources should have the ability of producing energy in various speeds. The use of squirrel cage asynchronous machines has been much more popular as generators companed with synchronous generators. Because asynchronous generators can transform power at variable speeds besides constant speeds. In addition they are more useful with regard to some characteristics. In this study a new model was developed in order to investigate the dynamic behaviours of a self-excited asynchronous generator. The theoretical results obtained using the model were compared to the experimental ones.
