Abstract (EN)
Achieving true, up-to-date, fast and active knowledge in all areas can be possible by using information technologies. Urban information system (UIS) which is an application based on geographic information system is one of these technologies is used as an active tool in managing and planning of cities. In the recent years, urban information systems which are started to be used extensively in Turkey cause difficulties in visual perception because of being two dimensional. The aim of this study is to show that in eliminating the problems of visual perception which is faced in two dimensional UISs and using the system as an active tool in urban management can be realized by establishing three dimensional visualization in UIS. In this context, current situation of UISs in Turkey and problems which are confronted are examined, and facilities of three dimensional visualization in planning, projecting, interrogation, presentation and perception and its usage in settlement areas are evaluated by a case study realized in Cayyolu-Umitkoy settlement area.
