The effect urbanization on agricultural land: Example of Harran Plain

Considering the fact that the world population is gradually increasing but the amount of land is decreasing, it is important to use soil materialism in a planned and rational way, to prevent the destruction and pollution of natüre and leave a more livable environment for future generations, while ensuring economic growth as well as industrialization and urbanization. Teherefore, the main purpose of this study is to develop policies to limit the non-agricultural use of agricultural lands in our country and to ensure the proper management of these lands and the problems of the structure of agricultural lands in Şanlıurfa, the events that cause them and the solution proposals. Within the scope of the study, the history of its use in the world and in Turkey, the current problems of agricultural lands and the dimensions of non-agricultural use of agricultural lands are discussed. İn the study, which ,is enriched with country examples, the importance of information infrastructure and the development of information infrastructure for agricultural lands are emphasized. İn this study, it is mentioned that the misuse of agricultural lands, the sustainability of these lands and therefore the negative effects on agricultural production. Misuse of agricultural lands; rapid population growth, widespread unplanned urbanization and developing industrialization are mentioned. While the areas where agricultural production takes place intensively constiute rural areas, the areas where production in the industry and servise sector are concentrated have started to become urban areas. İt will be mentioned that the sprawl in urban areas concentrates and puts pressure on the agricultural lands adjacent to the city and sprawl in urbanization and agricultural areas have a high negative relationship. Policies to be created to prevent agricultural lands from non-agricultural land and the necessity of securing agricultural lands with these policies wiil be mentioned. The problems brought by urbanization in Şanlıurfa and the possible damages of illegal settlement to agricultural lands in the Harran Plain will be mentioned and the possible problems of the Harran Plain wiil be mentioned.
